Being Thankful

candleBeing thankful is good practice.  Keeping your mind tuned in to all the things in daily life to be thankful for will change your perspective and give you a better attitude.

You might not like the job you go to each day, but it is paying your bills and allowing you to keep things that make your life comfortable and easier.  You might not like going to the grocery store, but thank goodness we don’t have to hike miles to get there, or are required to grow our own food or make all of our own clothes and shoes.

Isn’t it nice to not have to go to the stream or to the well to pump water, then boil it to be able to bathe or cook?  Isn’t it nice not to have to go find a bush or walk to the outhouse like our grandparents and their parents did?  I am so thankful for indoor plumbing!

You might not like to read, but isn’t it nice to have so much information available just by typing a few words in a search engine like Google, Yahoo, or Bing?   Isn’t it amazing that we have such extensive libraries where we can check out books that were written in places all over the world, and by authors both modern and from centuries past.  What about e-books?  Now there are so many books to choose from on just about any subject you can dream up, available with a click of your mouse.

You are no longer required to read in daylight or by candle light.  Now you can read anytime the notion hits you.  You can read on e-readers, your computer, your tablet or phone.  It’s amazing the information that is so readily available in just about any form you can think of including audible books, CD’s and even cassette tapes.

While on the subject, it’s it terrific that we can write and publish at will now?  What an amazing thing that we can write articles, protest, give opinions, or write blogs at will and about just about any subject!

I am thankful to be living here, right now at this time in history, because truly right now is a great time to be here.

Delayed but Not Permanently

Today I am thankful for delays.  I know that may sound weird, but there have been so many close calls in my life, times when if I had not been delayed then I could have been in harms way.  How many times have you been running late for work, only to pass an accident on the way that happened just moments before?

I am thankful for other delays as well. There have been times when I didn’t get to go somewhere on a trip only to have the weather turn bad.  There have been times when I thought I had landed the perfect job, only to find at the last minute that they chose someone else.  There have been times when I have been stuck in the same place wanting to move forward and finding that I just couldn’t seem to get a handle on things until later on when suddenly it seemed everything just fell into place.

I don’t have any answers for why we are delayed at times.  It can be frustrating and disappointing, but I believe everything happens for a reason.  When we are delayed then there is a reason that we may or may not ever be made aware of.  Now days I have learned to pay more attention if one thing after another goes wrong I have learned to question, if there are odd events and delays along the way I will sometimes opt out of going to the event.  If there are that many red flags then there must be a reason.

Sometimes I thank God for the delays, because the delays caused me to miss the storm.  Life is a learning experience, be thankful for all the lessons and insight it has to offer.

Sweet Dreams!

sleeping kitties

Today I am thankful for sleep.   Sleep is something we all need and crave more of at times.  There’s nothing that can take the place of a soft pillow and a warm blanket after a long day.

I love the luxury of a pillow top mattress and that there are so many types of mattresses to choose from. We really are spoiled with all the choices of pillows, comforters, and sheets available.  We take our rest and sleep very seriously.

I am thankful to be able to rest and recharge, to close my eyes and drift away to another place where possibilities are endless and flying is possible without an airplane.  I am thankful to have a place to sleep safely at night.

Sleep is truly a gift so our bodies have a chance to rest, recuperate and make a fresh start.  We do the majority of our growing and healing in our sleep.

I have often envied the cat and his ability to sleep most the day and night.  Then again, even though I enjoy sleeping I wouldn’t want to spend all my time dreaming, there’s a lot of living still to do.

Sa-weet!! Sweets!

Today I am thankful for candy.  I love all kinds of candy and there are so many kinds that you will probably never be able to try them all.

I love walking into a candy store and smelling the sweet flavors in the air, and the way different candy stores smell.  The smell of a salt water taffy shop is sugary elation, but it cannot come close to walking into a chocolatiers like Godiva.  The smell of chocolate is sensual and sweetly intoxicating.

My mom used to make divinity and chocolate fudge every year around Christmas and keep the candy bowls full.  We also made peanut brittle to give away as treats for teachers.

There are many fond memories associated with candy, from shopping for it and trying it in the candy shops to making it in the kitchen at home.  Candy is not just sweet to the taste, but a treat to make memories.  I am thankful to have sweet memories and plan to make many more.

Eat it Up!

Today I am thankful for restaurants.  It’s nice to have a wide range of places to go out to eat, to gather with family or friends, be served a meal, and enjoy the company without having to worry about cooking or clean up.

It can be addicting, this kind of convenience, we can get spoiled very quickly to having others wait on us.

Our family goes out to eat to meet up with friends, or family, and to celebrate different occasions.  We don’t go out to eat a lot because it can get expensive depending on where you go.  So going out to eat is a real treat when we do go.

I am thankful to live in a time and place where there is a wide variety of restaurants to choose from.  To be able to choose different cuisine’s is a convenient treat.  To be able to share the experience is a blessing.  Not long ago we went to Medieval Times and enjoyed dinner and a tournament for a birthday.

Take a moment to reflect on different places you’ve been able to eat at and enjoy, many memories have been made laughing and sharing around meals.

Just a Reminder

dark

Though the path seems dark,

be sure that the sun will shine again.

When things seem to be falling apart,

realize that they are just falling into place.

We don’t always get what we want,

Yet we usually have what we need.

Take a moment to be thankful for yet another day, another opportunity, another breath, for each one is a gift.  Take nothing for granted, for nothing is promised, be grateful and show appreciation when you can and above all this, know that you matter and are loved.
