One thing I can say for certain is that I have a new appreciation for the home improvement stores. I swear I should buy stock in The Home Depot as many times as I’ve been there in the last few days. We are still painting the house and bringing out the warmth.
Picking out new paint and finding just the right colors has proven a bit challenging at times. The way the house sits on the lot, the sun comes in the back window part of the day and the front windows the other part. What this means is that the house is almost an optical illusion at times making the colors seem completely different according to how the light hits the walls. It’s been an interesting concept to work with.
The aisles of paint can be really intimidating at the store. I gave up trying to figure it out and went to the experts. You just take them the colors you want and specify flat, semi-gloss, eggshell, or satin finish and they mix it up for you. I like “Joe” in the paint section best, the man is a master at mixing paint. If you get the wrong tint, and it can be fixed, then Joe can fix it and make it the color you want by calculating (by hand) the mixture of paint colors to tell the computer to add.
The kitchen is done, until we get the refrigerator at least.
The hall, two of the bedrooms and the laundry room are done as well. I love to paint, it’s one of my favorite things to do, but I confess to being ready for this part to be done. Now we just have to finish the living room, and my bedroom, then do spot checks (for white or missed spots) paint the woodwork and we will be through! Whew!
Oh, and note to self, don’t go in The Home Depot, hold up a screw and say, “I need a screw, but a long one.” To his credit, the gentleman that helped me did not burst out laughing even after I’d realized what I said and turned three shades of red. I suppose he’s heard that sort of thing before being in that department.
