The Trouble With Chocolate Chip Cookies

The trouble with chocolate chip cookies is that they are YUMMY!!!

I love to mix the cookie dough together and spoon them onto the pan.  I love the taste of the cookie dough – it is probably a sin to eat it before baking, but it is a temptation that is so hard to resist!

I love the smell of chocolate chip cookies baking, but it’s more than that.  I love the way they look all melty and hot on the cookie sheet when they come out of the oven.  I love the way they slide onto the cooling rack, and I love to eat them while they are still hot with a tall glass of milk.  It’s a beautiful thing, this love affair between chocolate chip cookies and milk.

When my brother was in college I would take a cake carrier, turn it upside down and fill the entire thing with homemade cookies for him to take back to college with him.  I learned to play with the recipes that way and add white chocolate chips, nuts, a touch of cinnamon, peanut butter chips, mix and match different ways to add a bit of flavorful zing.  It was a joy baking them up and having the whole house smell like cookies.

Cookies used to make their way to my youngest daughters room.  I swear they would just fly in there or something because I never saw her come get them.  Then suddenly there would be a trail of crumbs up the hall, or just a tiny smudge of chocolate on a small grinning face.

I don’t bake them as often now, the gremlins seem to munch on the dough when I’m not looking, and snatch them while they are still hot.  Somehow out of dozens of cookies, we only seem to end up with about eight or so in the cookie jar and for some reason when this happens, no one really wants to eat dinner later either. Ha.Still, it’s the first day of December and the last month of 2011.  I do believe it’s time to start baking cookies, today will be chocolate chip, and tomorrow? Who knows!  Maybe tomorrow will bring snicker doodles, peanut butter or sugar cookies.  You gotta have variety right?
